21-04-2012 - Club Outing
The date and venue for the annual club outing has been confirmed. In a change of tactic to previous years, it will be take place early in the year; on the 21st April in Murvagh (Co._Donegal_Golf_Club). Tee-off times will be between 11.45am and 12.45pm. The cost will be €50 which includes: the round of golf; tea and coffee prior to the golf; and dinner afterwards. Considering the time of year and whats included in the cost; this is great value, as well as the chance of playing one of the best courses in Ireland. It will also no doubt stand to the interclub golfers who will represent the club this year. Your support would be greatly appreciated._____________ ________________ (back to top)

15-01-2012 - Captain's Drive-In
Kevin and Patricia were blessed with a beautiful day for their respective Captains Drive-In. There was a great turn out in the scramble too, with 15 teams of 3 play the sundrenched Brabazon course. The Swinford Golf Club ladies did themselves proud again; putting on a fine spread of food, mulled wine, tea, and coffee which was served after the scramble. Kevin and Patricia were "delighted with the day, and we're very grateful to everyone for their kind support". Please see the photo's of the days events under the Gallery section of the website.
Build-up (12-12-2011)
The Captains Drive-in for the incumbent Captain's has been scheduled for the second weekend in January (15th). It is scheduled to take place at approximately 11.30am. It is the first time that a Man and Wife have taken the highest posts in the club; in the same year. There will be a scramble immediately proceeding the respective tee-shots, provided the first fairway is hit by both captains. Please come and support Kevin and Patricia's respective drive-ins, as well as the scramble.___________ (back to top)

25-09-2012 to 30-09-2012 Ryder Cup 2012 (Chicago, USA)
The 39th Ryder Cup Matches will be held September 25-30, 2012 at the Medinah Country Club in Medinah , Illinois. It will be the first time Illinois has staged the competition. Europe will be the defending Cup holder, having defeated the USA by 14½ points to 13½ in the 2010 competition at Celtic Manor Resort , Wales. With a total of 28 points available, 14½ points are required to win the Cup, and 14 points are required for the defending champion to retain the Cup. All matches are played to a maximum of 18 holes. The team captains will be José María Olazábal for Europe and Davis Love III for the USA.
European Ryder Cup captain Jose Maria Olazabal will wait until the completion of The Barclays tournament in the United States in August before making his two wildcard picks, avoiding a repeat of 2010 when Paul Casey was overlooked. The 2010 captain Colin Montgomerie made his three wildcard picks at the end of European qualifying at the Johnnie Walker Championship in Scotland, a few hours before the end of The Barclays. Casey, then number nine in the world, learned he had been left out while he was on the course playing his final round at The Barclays.
"The scenario the last time was a delicate one, especially for the captain and also for the players playing in the States," said Olazabal, who was behind the change to two picks from the previous three. "So we are going to wait until the Monday after until whatever happens in the States before we make a decision." Ireland's Padraig Harrington was six holes into the final round of the 2010 Barclays in New Jersey when he learnt from his wife that Montgomerie had chosen him as a wildcard. Harrington was competing alongside Casey who was overlooked by Montgomerie in favor of Harrington, Luke Donald and Edoardo Molinari.
"Looking at what happened two years ago it was not a comfortable decision for anybody playing in the States as they could be on the verge of winning that tournament," said Olazabal. "It would be completely unfair to name the two picks before a guy tees off in the States." The 2012 Ryder Cup between Europe and the United States takes place in Medinah, Illinois from September 28-30. For those of you lucky enough to make the trip to Chicago, you'll be please to know that the golf club is only a mere 20 minutes away from O'Hare International airport.
