The Spring League - Rd. One Scotch Foursomes After all the boardroom encounters of the past two months the real business commenced on sunday last with the first round of the spring league. Despite the sunny conditions a chilly east wind made scoring difficult for some but for some of the better chosen pairings the course proved no challenge. Tony Spain despite all his hard work on the course during the week scored freely and with Mr Consistant David Ronayne alongside duly leads the field with 42 points. Sean Geraghty and the Kiltimagh artist Gerrard O'Keefe stormed into second place on 41 points closely chased by Jim Biesty and the very vocal Paul Ronayne. Charles Quinn and Padraig Lyndon proved that even in an open draw two best friends can end up as partners with 40 points. Frank Duffy and Frank Durkin decided that they would not stand idley by and shot 39 sweet ones. The pelethon are closely grouped behind with great performances from Rob Thornburg, Kelian Gallogly, Tony King, Ron Howco, Tom Schaill, Owen McNicholas and rookies Viv Convey and Aron Millett. No doubt next sunday (Mothers Day) will bring renewed challengers to the front runners and then with Cheltenham in sight the pressure will really be on in the foursomes. Will Jimmy "the Beast" win the Gold Cup for the bogtrotters ? Will the person who robbed our Trolly Machine please present themselves to our treasurer as they are very well known and to commit the crime on the first occasion this year that it contained substantial funds....well...reminds us of a certain Mr Cahill who lodged a sum of money to a bank and then....an hour later proceeded to rob it.......he did not get away with it either...
